Thanks From Rodney

Thursday 20th was very much a case of the poacher turning gamekeeper. Instead of me running around cleaning, organising and catering I was the beneficiary of others efforts. I am especially indebted to Steve and Kevin for all the hard work they had put in to make it happen. I of all people know what it takes.

I hope it was a joyous occasion and even if I don’t look on the photographs as if I was enjoying myself, I was, although if I am going to be at the front of anything I prefer to have a clipboard or script to hide behind. I received a plethora of presents which in every case reflected an aspect of my personality, and in some cases brought back very specific memories – who can forget the underpants, I am glad that I have become so well known – if predictable, to so many of you.

I have always worn my heart on my sleeve and to a large extent what you see is what you get and I am very proud of 1st Carlton and equally proud of what it has allowed me to achieve, both for it and for myself. But when I talk of 1st Carlton what I am really referring to are the people, every leader, young leader, helper, parent, Scout, Cub, Beaver and friend to the Group. The premises are useful, the bank balance essential, but ultimately as long as you have these people the group will always exist. I am indebted to every one of them who have supported, helped and taught me over the last eight and a half years. I am also thankful to those at District Level, especially Peter Jarvis, who have also helped and guided me.

I am planning to move into a new role within Scouting in the New Year, but before this can happen there is a process that has to be followed and appearance before and approval obtained from the District Appointments Committee. I will keep you informed.

As Peter Jarvis rightly said, 1st Carlton will always be my group, it gave me my start in Scouting and for that I will always be thankful.

I wish you every success for 2013 and ask that you get behind the new GSL when they are appointed just as you have supported me.

Best Wishes.
Rodney Turner
